小説家で、着物デザイナーで、雑誌の編集者で、且つ実業家でもあった宇野千代さんは、１９９６年９９才で亡くなった。彼女は、多くの作家や画家との恋愛関係で有名である。９５歳の時のインタビューで、<私、いま恋をしているの＞と言って人々を驚かせた。彼女だったら、９５歳になって恋をしてもさすがだねと納得される。

でも普通はそうは行かない。６０過ぎたら普通の人は恋をしてはいけないというのが、日本の不文律である。

祝福されないどころか、不潔だとかいやらしいと非難されるのがおちである。年取ったら色恋はあきらめて、芋羊羹でも食べてお茶をすすっていなさいという掟は、長寿社会に適合していないと思う。

The novelist, kimono designer, magazine editor and entrepreneur Ms.UNO Chiyo passed away in 1996 at her 99. She was famous for being in romantic relationship with many writers and painters. In an interview at her 95, she astonished people with the claim “I am in a romantic relationship”. People may accept a 99-year-old person being in love for someone like Ms.UNO only, but not for common people. It is an unwritten rule in Japan that people over 60 years old shall not be in love. Not to say blessed, it is accused of filthy and odious.  People think senior citizens should refrain from love affairs and just take some potato yokan and tea to spend the rest of life. I don’t think it is suitable for a longevity society.
