死ぬの生きる

本人は死ぬの生きるの夜長かな

The guest and host are nice,

Unexpected topic of death,

Dare not to walk on the path.

Explanation:

久しぶりに甥が訪ねてきた。秋の夜長を一杯やりながら楽しもうと言うことかと思って酒肴を用意しておいた。ところが、話はのっけから、駆け落ちするの、心中するのという恋愛相談。そういう話を聴いてやるのも年寄りの役目と思って、酒をついでやりながら耳を傾ける。親が賛成してくれないのだとか。よくある話で、珍しくもない。私に親を説得してもらおうという魂胆のようだ。いつまで甘い顔をしていられないので、びしっと言ってやる。自分で選ぶのなら、死ぬのも良いのじゃないですか？

My nephew visited me after a long time. I was thinking of drinking and having fun with him in this long autumn night, thus prepared some food and drink. However, the topics went off the track and reached double love suicide. Considering it as the duty of a senior to listening to such consultation, I lent my ear while drinking alcohol. His parents did not support his love, which was not a rare situation. It seemed that his plan was to have me to persuade his parents. I sternly told him that you cannot play flighty forever. Even death can be good if that is your own choice. 

外甥久违地来做客。值此秋宵，我想着和他饮酒作乐，备好了酒菜。结果聊着聊着，话题跑到了“为爱自杀”上。我觉得听年轻人这方面的烦恼也是老人的义务，就喝着酒由他说。原来是他父母不赞成他的恋情，不是多新鲜的事。他好像是打算让我去说服他父母。我斥责他说，不要总想着撒娇。如果是自己作出的选择，死亡也没什么不好吧！
