雨寒や碁仇待てる竹林

In the cold of rain,

Rival in Go waits in pain,

The bamboos laugh like train.

寒雨霏霏下，棋中对手枯坐等，隐者竹中榻

Explanation: 

理想的な隠退生活。竹林の中に地味ではあるが快適な住居を構える。お気に入りの料理人が二人いて、

おいしい食事が毎日食べられる。若いおめかけさんが三人、四人いて、身の回りの世話をさせる。男衆も三人いて、家や庭の掃除やメンテナンスをする。街に出かけて、買い物するのも男衆の仕事。自分は何をするかというと、まず詩作。季節の移り変わりや、人の世のはかなさを詩に表現する。琴を奏でる。それから絵を描く。そして碁を打つ。こういう生活を＜清貧＞と言う。少し離れたところに住む清貧の老人と碁を打ち始めると夜を徹することもある。

This is the ideal hermit’s life.  Build a plain but cozy home in the bamboo forest.  Two cooks cooking delicious food everyday. Cared three or four young concubines. Three servants keep the house and yard clean, and purchase town the necessities. The hermit’s primary job is making poems. He should express the change of seasons and the transience of life in his poems. Also, he plays the koto and paints. Then he plays Go. This kind of life is called “honorable poverty”. He may also play Go all night with another old man of honorable poverty living in a somewhat distant place.

理想的隐居生活是这样的：在竹林里建一座简单舒适的房子，有两个手艺合口的厨子每天做好吃的，三四个美妾照顾起居，三个男仆负责打扫卫生和购物。隐者的工作，首先是作诗。用诗将四季变换，人生苦短表现出来。还有琴棋书画。这叫清贫。也可以到住的有点院的清贫老者家彻夜下棋。

告白

告白の日と定めたるクリスマス

Worrying about his mate,

Asking when should be the date,

Christmas is not late.

甥叙单相思，苦恼不决告白时，叔曰圣诞日

Explanation:

甥っ子22才に好きな彼女ができたとのこと。まだ告白していないのだが、いつ告白したらいいだろうかとの

相談。そんなこと自分で決めろと言いたいところだが、親切な叔父さんを演じたい私は、クリスマスが良いのじゃないかなとアドバイスする。

My nephew met his crush in 22. Uncertain about the time to confess, he consulted me. I was about to tell him to figure it out by himself, but I wanted to act like a good uncle. So I advise him to confess on Christmas.

外甥22岁遇到喜欢的人。他不知道什么时候告白才好，就来问我。我本来想叫他自己想去。但是因为想扮演一个亲切的叔父，我建议他在圣诞节告白。

Explanation:

親友はマザコンのかたまり。そのお母さんが亡くなって、めそめそしている。元気づけるために鍋料理をふるまう。どんなにやさしいお母さんだったかという話が延々と続く。熱燗を飲みながら、ウンウンと頷きながらその話を聞く。

My friend has Oedipus complex.When his mother died, he cried non-stop. To cheer him up, I treated him hot pot food. He talked about how great his mother was throughout the meal. Drinking hot Sake, I listen to his talk with nods.

好友有恋母情结。他母亲去世的时候，他哭哭啼啼没玩没了。为了帮他振作起来，我请他吃火锅。他一直在说他妈妈有多温柔多美好。我一边喝温酒，一边点着头听他说。

紅梅

紅梅の枝の先まで紅きかな

In the suffusion of slow,

Red plum blossom beside a tomb,

An everlasting vow.

雪气映人愁，墓旁梅香通芯红，谁魂寄枝头

Explanation:

梅には、白梅と紅梅があって、どちらも綺麗で、良い香りがします。紅梅には、濃い紅もあれば、ピンクのような色もあります。濃い紅の紅梅がお墓のそばに咲いています。よく見ると花だけではなく、枝の芯まで真っ赤です。

There are white plum blossoms and red plum blossoms. Both are beautiful and fragrant. Red plum blossom can be either red or pink. Dark red plum blossom is blooming beside a grave. Watching closely, even the core of the branch is purely red.  

梅花分红梅和白梅，不过都很美很香。红梅有大红和粉红。在墓边开着一树大红梅花。仔细一看，不光花朵是红的，连枝条的芯都是红的。

贫女顾影立，雪街花枯唯风驰，未闻心何祈雪国の繁華街、路地を一本入ったたところに女が立っている。

娼婦だろうか。だが化粧も濃くないし、華やかな様子もない。四畳半一間のアパートで幼子がおなかを空かせて待っているのか。どんな事情があったのだろうか。

In the downtown of a snow country, a woman stands at the entrance of an alley. Maybe she is a prostitude, but her makeup is not thick and she doesn't look glamorous. Maybe she has a hungry child waiting for her to come back at a very small room.

 在雪国繁华的街道，胡同入口处站着一个女子。大概是妓女。然而妆画得不浓，穿得也不华丽。或许在小房间里有个等她回家哺育的孩子。

十年两茫茫，雪夜不意聚首处，无言当难忘

Explanation:

昔愛し合った少年と少女がそれぞれ別の人と結婚しました。少女は今はお金持ちの奥様。クリスマスイブに高級車でガソリンスタンドに立ち寄ります。そのガソリンスタンドは、かつての恋人が経営していました。

10年ぶりに再開したふたり。でも交わす言葉もあまりありません。ガソリンを満タンにして、彼女は立ち去ります。ガソリンスタンドの明かりに雪が降り積もって。きらきらと光っています。

A boy and a girl who were a couple now both have married other people. The girl is now the wife of a rich man.

In the Christmas Eve, she drives a luxury car and drops by a gasoine stand. This gasoline stand is run by her past lover. Reunited after a decade, yet not much can be talked. When the fuel is full, she drives away. Snow falls in the light from the gasoline stand, shining.

过去相爱过的少年少女和其他人结婚了。少女现在是有钱人的太太。她在圣诞前夜驾驶着豪车来到了加油站。这是她前男友的加油站。10年后的再会，两人却寡有言语。油加满后她就离开了。飘雪映着加油站的灯光，闪闪发光。

北京裏町

底冷えの北京裏町蒸し饅頭

A freezing cold 

Beijing back alley: 

Steaming buns beckon

冻气似白绸，胡同暖来绕鼻柔，行车蒸馒头

Explanation:

2月の北京は猛烈に寒い。冷気が地面から上がってきて、凍えてしまう。裏通りに入ったところで、自転車の荷台に蒸し器を載せたおばちゃんが饅頭を売っていた。湯気が立ち上って、ふかふかの饅頭がとてもうまそうだった。

February in Beijing it's very cold. Freezing air rises from the ground. When I enter the back street, a female manju seller is there, riding a bicycle with a steamer on its luggage carrier.  In the steam, the soft manju looks very delicious.

二月的北京极其冷。冷气从地面涨起，要把人冻僵。胡同里有个阿姨，骑着一辆载台上放着蒸笼的自行车在卖着馒头。蒸汽中软软的热馒头看起来特别好吃。

ガード下 寄り添ふ鳩

The bitter cold 

Of a pigeon huddling 

Beneath the railroad girders

寒风汩汩吹，轨梁隙中白鸽对，天涯共相随

Explanation:

ガード下の轟音の中で鳩が寄り添っている。こんなにうるさくて、寒いところ以外にもっと良い場所がありそうなものだと思う。それとも、こんなところで寄り添ってじっとしているのがしあわせなのかしら。

Under the guard bridge , a couple of pigeon are cuddling in the roaring sound.There should be better places than this noisy and cold one. Yet, they are cuddling here. Is cuddling in such harsh environment still happiness to them? I feel a bit envious.

一对鸽子在下轨的轰鸣声中相依。应该有比这喧嚣寒冷的所在更好的地方的。然而它们相依于此，这就是幸福吗？
