紅白の優劣競う梅談義

Red plums bleed,

But white plum glee,

Arguing poets can only sigh a Gee.

红梅骨中艳，孰若白梅胜雪洁，士子徒争辩

Explanation:

古来日本の詩人を悩ませてきたテーマがふたつある。ひとつは、春と秋のどちらがより詩的な季節であるかということ。もう一つは、白梅と紅梅のどちらだがより美しいかということ。このように、日本の詩人、芸術家は実務上どうでも良いことに関心を持ってきた。日本を代表する詩人である藤原定家は＜紅旗征戎吾がことにあらず＞とぬかした。我々高級な人種である詩人は実務に関わる必要はないという意味である。今でも、日本の知識人は実務能力がなく、それをむしろ誇っている傾向がある。中国で詩人として有名な曹操は、実務能力抜群の悪役として三國志に登場する。日本の芸術家知識人も、実務に通じた上で、作品を発表したり評論したりしたらいいと私は思うのだが。。。

There are two traditional themes that have been bothering Japanese poets since ancient.  One is spring and autumn, which is more poetic.  The other is white plum and red plum, which is more beautiful.  Japanese poets and artists have been concerning for things of no importance in practice like this.  The Japanese poets’ representative, Fujiwara No Teika said, ”Red flag in military affairs, none of our business.” It means that for us, the superior species of poets, there is no need to care about practical things. Even today, Japanese intellectuals still intend to be proud of incapable of doing practical things. On the other hand, the famous Chinese poet, Cao Cao was written in the Three Kingdoms’ Story as a villain with great capability in practical affairs.  If only Japanese intellectual artists can learn practical things before presenting art works or critiques.

自古以来日本诗人有两个争论不休的话题。其一是春与秋哪个更有诗意。另一个是白梅和红梅哪个更美。

日本的诗人和艺术家就是对这种没有实际意义的事情抱有关心。日本的代表性诗人藤原定家戏谑道“红旗征戎非吾事”。说的就是对于我们高级人类诗人而言，没有必要关系实务。时至今日，日本的知识分子依然有以不通实务为荣的倾向。相比之下，中国的大诗人曹操却能作为极有能力的反派在三国志登场。我觉得要是日本的知识分子在搞艺术、发评论之前也能先精通实务就好了。。。
